"Visualizing Human Embryos" (1999), by Bradley Richard Smith
نویسنده
چکیده
In March 1999 Bradley Richard Smith, a professor at the University of Michigan [4], unveiled the first digital magnetic resonance images of human embryos. In his article ?Visualizing Human Embryos? for Scientific American, Smith displayed three-dimensional images of embryos using combinations of Magnetic Resonance Microscopy [5] (MRM), light microscopy [6] , and computer editing. He created virtual embryo models that are possible to view as dissections, animations, or in their whole 3D form. Smith?s images constitute a new way of visualizing embryos. They served to help students, researchers, clinicians and the general public interested in the study and investigation of human embryonic development.

Chromosomal Aneuploidies and Early Embryonic Developmental Arrest
Background Selecting the best embryo for transfer, with the highest chance of achieving a vital pregnancy, is a major goal in current in vitro fertilization (IVF) technology. The high rate of embryonic developmental arrest during IVF treatment is one of the limitations in achieving this goal. Chromosomal abnormalities are possibly linked with chromosomal arrest and selection against abnormal fe...

Visualizing personal histories requires a tool that can present users with multiple time intervals along with supporting information. The Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at the University of Maryland created LifeLines, a visualization tool for personal histories in 1994 to visualize youth records [7]. The software was recoded in 2003 to facilitate easy zooming, but not all of the original...
متن کاملOxidized derivatives of 7-dehydrocholesterol induce growth retardation in cultured rat embryos: a model for antenatal growth retardation in the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome.
7-Dehydrocholesterol accumulates in fetuses affected by the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome as a result of a deficit in the ultimate step of cholesterol synthesis catalyzed by Delta7 reductase. Rat embryos explanted at gestation day 10 and cultured for 48 h in the presence of the Delta7 reductase inhibitor AY 9944 were used as a model to discriminate between the beneficial effect of supplementation ...

As an evolutionist biologist, Dawkins has commented on some non-biological fields of knowledge such as ethics. Regarding ethics, he has utilized different areas of knowledge like social biology, evolutionary psychology, genetics etc. The most important aspect of Dawkins theory is that he negates any form of moral distinction between human and animals. His concerns about dealing with ethics orig...
